the city. Pompey had Hyraca-
nus II allow him through Jeru-
salem's gates. He then pro-
ceeded to the Temple, where
Aristobulus II had barricaded
himself inside. Aristobulus had
burned the new bridge, be-
tween upper Jerusalem and the
Temple Mount, behind him,
leaving Pompey no choice but
to breach the walls.
